Kindles are electronic books and much more.

Kindles have built in dictionaries so if you are reading and unsure of a word just move the cursors next to the word and the definition appears.

Kindles can convert text to speach. You can read along or have the book read to you. There is a choice between a male and female voice. The voices are surprisingly real souding despite the occasional mispronunciation.

Kindles also have a free web browser that uses the 3 G network, and yes it is free no monthly charge.

You can take notes and highlight on your Kindle, than download to your computer and print.

Each Kindle has a email address so you can email documents to the Kindle which can then be read on the device. Yes the text to speach works on these documents as well.

Best sellers usually go for about $9.99 on the Kindle. You can share up to 6 Kindles on 1 account. We have 15 at FMS so if I want a particular book on all 15 Kindles I would have to buy it 3 times (6 X 3 = 18). I wish you could put them all on one account but still for $30 I could get 15 copies of Twilight for my students.
